Batman: The Killing Joke (Batgirl / Barbara Gordon)

In this graphic novel, the Joker shoots and paralyses Barbara Gordon, a.k.a. Batgirl, in an attempt to drive her father insane, thereby proving that anyone can be morally compromised. Shot and grievously wounded, Barbara Gordon is then stripped of all of her clothing, photographed completely naked, and possibly raped  by the Joker, furthering her degradation.

Although events in The Killing Joke exert a great impact on Barbara, the story has little to do with her. She is deployed as a plot device to cement the Joker’s vendetta against Commissioner Gordon and Batman.

  1. The Killing Joke is one of those classic comic stories that leaves the reader feeling haunted. I feel bad for poor Batgirl.

Still, those are some great dramatic panels though.
