Kissin Pink: If my general knowledge of animals serves me well, Chinchillas are crepuscular rodents, slightly larger and more robust than ground squirrels with little to nothing in common with uncombined atoms and nuclear energy... So what exactly please tell me makes a Chinchilla like you so "Atomic"?
Atomic Chinchilla: I’m atomic because I’m full of a fiery zest for life! …Or something. Actually, the name is partially inspired from an old friend of mine who had a screen name with “Gerbil” in it. When I was first making a DeviantArt profile years ago I was throwing words around to make a good screen name and remembered my friend’s handle using a rodent. The phrase “Atomic Chinchilla” came from that and I liked the way it rolled, so I stuck with it ever since.
Kissin Pink: Who is Atomic Chinchilla?
Atomic Chinchilla: He is a rare and elusive animal with a love for animating, cartoons, drawing comics, and Pepsi.
Kissin Pink: Haha, well that clears that up. When did you first start blogging and what was your first post?
Atomic Chinchilla: I started out lurking on the Anime Feet blog a couple years ago. I liked KSC’s casual, friendly attitude and most of the regular commenters seemed like cool people, so I eventually made a profile so I could comment here and there too. The first post I contributed screen caps for was an Evangelion post back in 2012, and the first post I did myself was for Kill La Kill back in last November.
Kissin Pink: I've noticed that you don't have your own blog, why is that?
Atomic Chinchilla: Honestly because there’s not much for me to blog about that others don’t already have covered. KingsSideCastle has a good set-up on Anime Feet so any foot-related things I could do I’d probably just post there. I've thought about posting some foot-related artwork I've drawn on Anime Feet to advertise myself for commissions, but I'm not sure if that would be in poor taste.
Kissin Pink: Boots, High-heels, Sandals or Bare?
Atomic Chinchilla: Bare, definitely. A woman’s bare foot is a work of art. Sandals are fine in places where bare feet would be impractical. Boots are sometimes a necessity, but I don’t care for them since they make the foot stuffy and smelly, which isn't my thing. And I despise high heels. They’re impractical for any kind of action or running, and they just don’t look sexy to me.
Kissin Pink: Who was the first female character who's feet you just had to see and why?
Atomic Chinchilla: I can remember wanting to see Princess Zelda barefoot all the way back in middle school when I first started noticing things like that. Too bad the closest we've gotten is sandals in Skyward Sword. Another one would be Android 18 from Dragon Ball Z, who we also only got a brief glimpse of in flip flops in one episode. Those are the earliest I can remember.
Kissin Pink: And with that, which female character’s feet are your favourite?
Atomic Chinchilla: Morgiana from Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic. She’s become my favourite female anime character of all time, and the fact that she’s always barefoot is icing on the awesome cake.
Kissin Pink: I've just scrolled through your deviantART page and I have to admit I'm really impressed. Tell me about your comic "Feral Faith", and do you have any future plans for it?
Atomic Chinchilla: Thank you! Feral Faith is a sci-fi action comic about the titular heroine and her missions in a dangerous world that’s taken a very different course of history from our own. She is a Para-human, which is a term used to refer to anyone with natural or augmented skills, powers, or talents that make them unique from the rest of humanity. Faith has a very rare genetic quirk that makes her body unusually receptive to genetic augmentation, which has given her enhanced strength, agility, endurance, and the power to generate bursts of bioelectricity. She also has special pads on the palms of her hands and soles of her feet that let her cling to sheer surfaces and climb walls like a gecko. For those with a fondness for female feet, that means she’s always barefoot on the job. *wink* For future plans, oh boy, do I have a lot. The story is plotted out for three “seasons” of stories, and will introduce many new characters (with some barefoot villainesses for good measure). I currently have a modest readership and I’d love to see it grow as the series progresses, and I’d like to update the hosting site, sell hard copies of the comics, and all sorts of things. I’m always open for commissions, so I help some more attention would lead to more customers!
Kissin Pink: Other than Animefeet, what other blogs dedicated to feet do you visit, and which is your favourite?
Atomic Chinchilla: Well, I’ve been following your own blog for a little while now, and I like your stuff! I also keep track of Virtual Soles and the new Webcomic Feet Finder blogs, both of which are great. Then there’s Wikifeet, which showcases photos and screenshots of female celebrities and actresses. My favourite I think would have to be Kawaii Feet, who encompasses no less than five different Tumblr blogs for feet in different media.
Kissin Pink: Anime, Comics, Manga & Western Cartoons.... Which do you prefer and why?
Atomic Chinchilla: Ooh, that’s a tough one. There are series I love from all of them, and it’s hard to pick one over the rest. If I really had to choose, I think anime, for the broad diversity in styles, stories, and genres that are more willing to experiment than American cartoons.
Kissin Pink: What's your favourite anime?
Atomic Chinchilla: There isn't really a way for me to pick just one. It’d have to be a tie between Rurouni Kenshin and Trigun. Both have a similar archetype for the hero, but each one is unique and wonderfully endearing. They both have a great cast of characters, awesome action, and fantastic stories.
Kissin Pink: As an artist and blogger, how important is the notion of free speech and the ability to post whatever you want over the internet?
Atomic Chinchilla: Oh, very. I'm a staunch supporter of a free internet. No government should have the right to say what is or isn't allowed.
Kissin Pink: Do you ever think that you'll retire from posting?
Atomic Chinchilla: If I ever run out of material to cover, maybe? I hope that doesn't happen any time soon, though.
Kissin Pink: How do you vision Animefeet in 5 years?
Atomic Chinchilla: I’d like to see some more new faces come in to contribute more for the blog, but I don’t want it to turn into a crowded mess. I hope we’ll keep getting new quality material to showcase to fill up those five years!
Kissin Pink: Me too. Thank you Atomic Chinchilla.
Atomic Chinchilla: No problem at all! Thanks for the interview!
